Sports Day 16th June 2017
What a fantastic afternoon that was! The children had an amazing time competing in a sprint race, obstacle course and egg and spoon race, to name but a few. They all displayed amazing sportsmanship qualities, superb determination, resilience and graciousness. The older children guided and supported the younger children and everyone cheered every team which was a delight to witness.
The winners were the 'Red Team' but the whole school did themselves proud.
The Parents' obstacle race was highly competitive, well done to all those who took part The Toddler Race was fantastic too with some little super stars displaying their talents!!
Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, uncles, aunties and all the spectators who came to cheer the children on.
Finally, a special thank you goes to Mrs Duggin for all her hard work organising the teams and setting up the afternoon for all the events.
13th June 2017 Class Trip to Lincoln Castle
On Tuesday, the children in Class 3 went on an exciting visit to Lincoln Castle for a Roman WOW Day.
When we arrived, the first thing we did was go for a walk along the walls of the castle. We could see for miles! We found out lots of facts about what Lincoln would have been like in Roman times and looked at some artist’s impressions of what the site would have looked like. We were very high up!
Next we went back down to the castle grounds and learned how to march like the Roman soldiers would have. We learned the Latin words for ‘left’, ‘right’ and ‘stop’ and then practised our marching skills.
Then we were ready to march into battle! We dressed in Roman helmets and armed ourselves with swords and shields for protection. We practised 2 different battle formations before re-enacting a fierce battle between the Romans and the Celts.
After that we went back inside and looked at some replica Roman soldier artefacts. We even got to try some of them on! Then we got crafty and made our own Roman shields.
Finally it was lunch time where we all enjoyed a picnic outside in the castle grounds.
After lunch we all transformed into archaeologists! We took part in a mini dig activity where we discovered some Roman artefacts – some of them were even real, from more than 2000 years ago!
Later we got to go and have a look around the museum gallery where there were lots of artefacts from the Roman times that were discovered in the city of Lincoln. It was really interesting to see pottery, bracelets, brooches, hair combs and coins from so long ago!
Finally it was home time. We all had a truly amazing day and learned lots of new information about our Roman topic!
